Role of the Federal Government in Public Education

The Leader's Guide that contains the consensus questions for the LWVUS Education Study is now posted on the website. Go to http://www.lwv.org and click on For Members. From the drop down menu on the left select Projects and Programs. On that page select the education study and the Leader's Guide is below the fold at the bottom of the main page. The Consensus questions are also in the Guide.

Timeline for LWVUS Education Study
June 2010: Proposed and passed at the League of Women Voters Convention in Atlanta
October 2010: The committee and scope approved by the LWVUS Board of Directors
November 2010 to April 2011: Study materials, leaders' guide, consensus questions, resources and timeline under development
April 2011: Consensus questions approved by the LWVUS Board of Directors
May through November 2011: Local Leagues study the "Role of the Federal Government in Public Education" and come to consensus
November 30: Consensus reports due to LWVUS website at http://www.lwv.org
March 2012: LWVUS Board of Directors reviews the consensus results for comment and approval of the position for the "Role of the Federal Government in Public Education"

Privatization Study

June 2010: Study proposed and passed at the League of Women Voters Convention in Atlanta.
April 2011: The LWVUS Board approved the following study scope: "The purpose of this study is to identify those parameters and policy issues to be considered in connection with proposals to transfer federal, state or local government services, assets and/or functions to the private sector. It will review the stated goals and the community impact of such transfers, and identify strategies to ensure transparency, accountability and preservation of the common good."
Summer 2011: The Study Committee is developing resource materials and preparing consensus questions, to be available in late fall 2011.
Late Fall 2011: Local Leagues will have from late fall 2011 until early spring 2012 to complete their study and take consensus.
