Interactive Breakout Sessions – Collaborating with League Members Across Arizona

Not Theory. Not Talking Points. Real Conversations About the Work Ahead.

  • Breakout Session 1: Nonpartisanship in Action
What does it mean to remain nonpartisan at a time when voting rights, public education, libraries, election administration, and civil liberties are under attack? This session moves beyond theory into the real tensions Leagues are navigating every day. Participants will explore how to speak clearly and forcefully about threats to voters and democratic institutions without retreating into watered-down messaging that fails to move people to action. You will discuss where members struggle, where the public misunderstands us, and how we lead with clarity, credibility, and courage.

  • Breakout Session 2: Courage in Practice
League members across the country are facing increasing hostility, misinformation, public pressure, and attempts to silence civic engagement. This session is a candid conversation about what it means to lead in this environment. Together we will explore how Leagues respond when members, speakers, librarians, educators, election officials, or community partners come under attack; how we navigate conflict and intimidation; and how we sustain ourselves while continuing this work. This is not a theoretical discussion — it is about the practical realities of showing up, speaking out, and staying engaged in challenging times.

  • Breakout Session 3: Engaging Members into Leadership
Many Leagues are relying on the same small group of leaders while newer members struggle to find pathways into meaningful involvement. This session will focus on the urgent work of building the next generation of League leadership. Participants will discuss how to identify emerging leaders, move members from observers to organizers, share institutional knowledge, and create structures that bring more people into real decision-making and action. Stronger leadership pipelines are essential not only for League sustainability, but for expanding our collective impact in communities across Arizona.

Join us as we lead with courage, strengthen our League, and take action for democracy.
